KIND OLD MAN
I met a kind old man today, met him in the local
food market.
He was trying to find the bread rack, while driving an electric
cart.
He said "excuse me", as he hit reverse, trying to move out
of my way.
But that humble gesture, and piercing eyes had me stammering
for something to say.
I'd never seen him before, but I felt that I had and
there was something in that tender voice.
My intention was to turn and walk
away but my convictions would leave me no choice.
So I stopped to ask if
I could be of some help with his items, as he scrutinized each
He said "No
thank you sir, I'm just trying to choose wisely it's the cost of things that's out
of my reach."
Compassion for this stranger had taken control and it
was clear he never wanted to beg.
So I offered him some "conscience
money" and I saw that he had only one leg.
And his humble handshake through
a teary eye gave me such a powerful lift.
And as he rolled away; I knew who
he was and a scripture let me know it could be;
"In as much as you have
done for the least of these likewise you have done for me."
Matt 25:40
