Daniel 7 Premillennial Double Reference View
If we compare keys
verses in Chapter 7 in the Book of Daniel with the Book of Revelation we find some
very interesting comparisons.
Beasts from the Sea
"And
four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. {4} The first was
like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked,
and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a
man's heart was given to it. {5} And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear,
and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between
the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh. {6} After
this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four
wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it. {7}
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible,
and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces,
and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts
that were before it; and it had ten horns" (Dan 7:3-7 KJV).
"And I
stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven
heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of
blasphemy. {2} And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were
as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave
him his power, and his seat, and great authority" (Rev 13:1-2 KJV).
The
Revelation 13 description of the beast out of the sea alludes to Daniel 7. In Daniel
7, the fierce beast represented Rome and from the original Roman empire would spring
10 horns or governments-separate, yet related. As Daniel looked at the vision, (Daniel
7:8) "another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of
the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes
like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words." Compare this "little
horn" with the beast in Revelation 13:5: "And he was given a mouth speaking
great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two
month. " Thirdly, this beast is seen by John to rise out of the sea (13:1).
Since the "sea" John would be most familiar with was the Great Sea or the
Mediterranean, many believe this detail to be important to identifying from what
area Antichrist will come. Hence the interest in the current plans for a United States
of Europe which would have that sea in common. Also, later in Revelation 17:1, the
great whore is seen as Daniel Chapter 7 sitting on many waters. In 17:15, this symbol
of many waters is explained: "The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits,
are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues." If this could also be an explanation
of the "sea" in 13:1, then the first beast comes out of the general mass
of peoples of the earth, not from a specific national group that we could identify
now. In Isaiah 57:20, the wicked are compared to the sea, so the beast could be said
to come out from among the wicked of the earth, which is certainly in keeping with
John's description in Revelation 13.
Court books being opened
"A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered
unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was
set, and the books were opened" (Dan 7:10 KJV).
"And I saw the dead,
small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was
opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which
were written in the books, according to their works" (Rev 20:12 KJV). A great
white throne appears. A similar throne was beheld by John at the beginning of the
great judgments which proceed the millennium. (Revelation 4:2-6 KJV). That was set
in the heaven; where this is set we are not told. The first had a rainbow over it
to indicate fulfillment of covenant promises. This does not, for it has no hopes
to offer, no covenant of good to fulfill. Out of that proceeded lightning, thunders
and voices, indicative of revolutionary judgments upon the living world; to this
nothing is ascribed but greatness and whiteness, indicating immeasurable power and
pure, complete, unmingled and invincible justice. How important, how imperative it
is for each of us to prepare for God's blessings in Jesus Christ rather than experience
God's judgments.
Coming Son of Man
" I saw in the night
visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and
came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. {14} And there
was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages,
should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass
away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed" (Dan 7:13-14 KJV).
"And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall
all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the
clouds of heaven with power and great glory " (Mat 24:30 KJV).
"Jesus
saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see
the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven
" (Mat 26:64 KJV).
"And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the
Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven"
(Mark 14:62 "And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son
of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden
girdle" (Rev 1:13 KJV).
The church in this text is represented by the
seven golden candlesticks to express excellence, purity, value, glory, beauty, splendor
and preciousness. God intended the church to have these characteristics. The use
of a candlestick is to receive, exhibit and dispense light. The church does this
by her purity of doctrine, communion, and spirituality of worship. It is important
that the church give testimony to the character of God, be the embodiment of divine
truth, be an expression of the essentials of the doctrine of grace, publish the gospel,
be a witnessing church, maintaining and contending for the truth. The church should
be a missionary church, preaching the gospel throughout the whole world.
War
against the saints
"I beheld, and the same horn made war with the
saints, and prevailed against them;" (Dan 7:21 KJV).
"And it was given
unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him
over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations" (Rev 13:7 KJV).
An Everlasting
Kingdom
"And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the
kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the
most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve
and obey him" (Dan 7:27). "And the seventh angel sounded; and there were
great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms
of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever" (Rev 11:15).
The
results accompanying the sounding of the last trumpet are the most remarkable, the
most numerous and the most intense, both in heaven and on earth, that are anywhere
given in the Scriptures. Great voices in heaven utter themselves, even eternity cannot
keep quiet when this crisis comes. The twenty-four elders fall down upon their faces
and worship. The temple of God in heaven opens and with that opening of the heavenly
temple the ark of God's covenant appears and lightning, voices, thunderings, earthquakes
and great hail ensue. Jehovah is now ready to bring final punishment on the wicked.
The first radical change is in the world government, and closely following this change
is the destruction of earth's destroyers, usurpers, liars, tyrants, persecutors and
murderers who thus spoil God's world. They shall be reacted upon by the violence
of their own deeds, overwhelmed and utterly put out of the way.
